I’ve been wanting to do it for ages: find a map of Amsterdam and handprint the city’s canal houses on top of it; but I could never quite find the right map for the job. Finally I found a map which surpassed all my expectations: Hermann Bollmann’s stunning panoramic view of Amsterdam, in its original 1956 edition.
That was one week ago: since then, I cut it carefully into 20 sections, printed the little houses onto each section, and listed them for sale on Etsy. They’ve been on sale for one day now, and nearly half have gone already.
I love this series, and I love it when customers tell me about their very special connection with my prints, whether it’s the general feel of the city, or a specific street where they once lived. I can’t wait to find more maps, and make more connections.
