I’m Catrìona Black, and I love making prints. For years I’ve used digital tools to create animation and illustration, always trying to make them look handmade.
Then, I took the plunge and went back to beautiful, messy basics. I love the ink under my fingernails and the whiff of turps in the air. I’ve a corner of the garden shed to call my own, and there I explore the joys and challenges of lino printing.
Having moved to the Netherlands five years ago, I draw inspiration from the Dutch places and stories around me. But my fundamental driving force will always be my own Scottish Gaelic heritage. I love to listen to Radio nan Gaidheal while I work, and one of my projects is an illustrated pocket book of weird and wonderful Gaelic words.
I spend many happy hours working in my shed, hand-printing and hand-colouring each work of art with the greatest of care. I hope you love them as much as I do.
